The Wedding Fair by Emaar
Chime Of The Wedding Bells
A wedding is a time of celebration, a celebration of happiness and of the new beginnings. Over the past few decades, the wedding industry has gone through tremendous changes and growth. Gone are the days of simple modest weddings, today a wedding is an elaborate and extravagant experience which requires meticulous planning, painstaking execution, attention to details and a lot more…
Since February and March are the wedding months in Dubai, The Wedding Fair by Emaar Hospitality Group is the ultimate event that aims at providing the finest wedding resources, products and services, catering to the couples, families and wedding planners. We spoke with Alma Au Yeung, Group Director of Lifestyle Events, Sponsorship & Partnership, Emaar Hospitality Group and learned more about the idea of the event.
Tell us about the upcoming Wedding Fair by Emaar Hospitality Group and who are you targeting?
This is the region’s largest open-air wedding event, so we are targeting practically anyone who is thinking about weddings, whether it is brides or grooms to be, wedding planners, anyone involved in helping couples plan their wedding, couples who are already married and would like to renew their vows, or are celebrating a wedding anniversary or gentlemen looking for a venue to propose. We are also targeting people from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds as this year we offer Western, South Asian, Arabian and African themes that will help our guests to discover inspiring ideas at different pavilions.
We are confident that the quality and diversity of venues offered by Emaar are second to none and we provide real choice at competitive rates. For example, the Viewing Deck at The Palace Downtown Dubai offers panoramic views of Burj Lake and the iconic Burj Khalifa and caters for a 200 guest reception and up to 120 for a sit-down dinner or buffet. Guests may also opt for The Academy Deck at The Address Montgomerie Dubai, with unrivaled views of the uptown Dubai skyline that lends a dramatic flair to intimate events and celebrations as 160 guests are comfortably catered for in an open venue of natural beauty. We also have unique spaces to accommodate over 1,000 guests whether people are looking for an indoor ballroom space or a spectacular outdoor venue.
How big is the wedding industry in Dubai, considering that it is one of the most modern cities in the world?
It is worth about $700 million a year in the UAE alone. It is big business with many weddings hosting more than 1,000 guests depending on nationality. For example, Westerners tend to go for smaller weddings and spend in the region $25,000 on their wedding while Indian and Arab weddings are larger and can spend in excess of $200,000.
Even at the height of the economic downturn, weddings were not an area where people economized and it is a growing sector both in terms of the number of weddings taking place every year and the growing popularity of Dubai as a wedding destination.
What are the highlights of the fair?
The Wedding Fair by Emaar Hospitality Group promises to be a wonderful occasion this year with a number of highlights. As mentioned, we have four different zones including Arabic, Western, African and South Asian that showcase different cultural wedding concepts.
Over 50 handpicked partners and market leaders in their field will showcase their quality products and services whilst providing outstanding advice and guidance in a number of different areas including Personal Style, Wedding Planning, Wedding Cakes, Wedding Stationery, Memorabilia, Decorations and Entertainment, and Unique Services. Guests who book their wedding venue between February 3 and 28 have the opportunity to win fabulous prizes and for those who love value for money, there will be numerous extra special offers available for on-site purchases.
Is this a one-time event or is it just the beginning for more such events by Emaar?
This is our eighth Wedding Fair as Emaar Hospitality Group but this is the first time it is all encompassing as we really are taking the event to the next level by hosting it at a new iconic location – the Burj Park in front of Burj Khalifa. This will be our biggest yet with more properties, vendors and experts taking part than ever before. For example, the outlets and properties on offer include The Palace Downtown Dubai, encompassing – The Viewing Deck; The Palace Fountain View Garden; The Palace Lakeside Garden, The Palace Pool Area and the Royale Ballroom. At Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club guests can choose from the Polo Garden; Barooda; Palermo Terrace and Saha Courtyard. For guests who love golf and breath-taking views of the Dubai skyline The Address Montgomerie Dubai will showcase The Academy Deck; The Lawn and Aquaviva, while visitors can learn more about the Baker-Finch or Water’s Edge at Arabian Ranches Golf Club. The Address Dubai Marina offers two enviable locations – the Constellation Ballroom and The Club Pool, while The Address Dubai Mall offers the intimate setting of the Diamond Ballroom. Emaar’s latest property and soon-to-be open The Address Boulevard Dubai offers the elegant Boulevard Ballroom, whilst a group booking a minimum of 10 rooms and looking for real value for money could opt for any Rove Hotel and receive complimentary transport to another Emaar wedding venue.
Do you think Dubai has a potential to become world class luxury wedding destination?
Definitely, we see more a unique facilities being developed in Dubai making this not just the primary hub of the Middle East but also one of the world’s go-to destinations. As a world-class city, Dubai has become a magnet for some of the world’s most talented, which is great news for the hospitality industry and for Emaar’s loyal customers. Not only are we offering futuristic properties that stand out in a large, crowded market but we possess the ability to attract the best event planners, chefs, culinary professionals and experienced hospitality leaders ensuring that our offering remains ahead of the pack and that we deliver cutting-edge experiences at every juncture.
What advice would you like to give to people planning to tie the knot in Dubai?
I’d recommend first to acquire a great wedding advisor to assist you every step of the way – the wedding industry possesses some outstanding professionals and Dubai is no different. Secondly, be realistic with your budget and plan ahead and define what is essential and what would be good to have. Choose a venue that suits your preference – indoor or outdoor and be realistic about the number of attendees to invite. Decide on the perfect style and format of the wedding and ensure you give overseas guests plenty of notice while subtly and respectfully highlighting cultural differences or sensitivities. Emaar’s wedding experts help and guide our clients every step of the way to ensure they have the most memorable wedding possible, so I would urge interested parties or couples to attend the Wedding Fair this year to learn more about how to tie the knot in Dubai.
