HintHunt® – Escape Games
Are you game?
There’s always a demand for exciting indoors spots for all weather adventure in Dubai. Firstly, because when the mercury rises it is impossible to entertain yourself in the sun and secondly, there’s a privation of family/group entertainment places. Although there are a number of places that promise group entertainment but they are usually limited to cinemas, bowling alleys and water parks etc.
HintHunt® is one such place that guarantees a lot more than just entertainment. In simple terms, it is a high street version of ‘live’ escape game that involves a team of three to five people locked inside a room while a puzzle master watches over them via video cameras. Puzzles and clues open up secret drawers and doors, as they try to break free before the time runs out. The puzzle master also communicates with the team through a plasma screen on the wall, in case further assistance is required.
In our yellow submarine…
On a regular perfect day, I wanted to venture the idea of being trapped inside a chamber and try working out with a team to get out of it. The notion seemed challenging as well as inviting, so, we booked in for the HintHunt Dubai’s latest challenge the Submarine mission.
…And our friends are all aboard
Many more of them live next door
And the band begins to play…
With an entourage of 5 team members, we stepped into what is seemingly a perfect simulation of U-53 Submarine and picked out the Torpedo challenge. Since my team was a bunch of adrenalin junkies, the mission felt like a drill that required both physical activity and mental acumen. After a 10 minute brief on what to expect, we stepped into the game zone. With 60 minutes in hand, during which our submarine disappeared from the radar our mission was to find out what happened and prepare the torpedo for any possible threats.
The game room was teeming with buttons, control panels, clues and all sorts of intriguing suspicion (that could easily result in wasting time) but as the team’s mentor however, I kept bringing everyone’s focus back to the mission, without getting carried away with trivialities. With a little scuffle, trying to find clues, we bumped into a few which catapulted our adventure into a different ball game. Getting a hang of things, clues after clues and a little help every now and then by the puzzle master, we finally unlocked the door to the main control room.
Full speed ahead it is, Sergeant.
Cut the cable, drop the cable
Aye, Sir, aye
Once inside the control room, the mission became more of a brain teaser, requiring more fastidious attention to details and clues. The quandary demanded more vigilance and active participation which is also a perfect exercise to master your problem-solving skills under pressure and with time constraints.
Continuously debunking clues and hints, we finally managed to secure and launch our torpedo, just a moment short or 60 minutes. We called it a win-win at 59 minutes and 59 seconds.
