EMIRATES LITERATURE FOUNDATION – Taaleem Award for Poetry and Story Writing Competitions
EMIRATES LITERATURE FOUNDATION SEARCH IS ON FOR YOUNG WRITERS AND POETS
Taaleem Award for Poetry and Story Writing Competitions Now Open
The Emirates Literature Foundation’s search for the nation’s best young poets and writers has begun, with the launch of its annual creative writing competitions, the Taaleem Award for Poetry and the Story Writing Competition.
Fixtures on the academic calendar, the competitions run in Arabic and in English. Entries are invited from full-time students in schools, colleges, and universities in the GCC, with the competitions divided into age-specific categories: 11 and under, 12-14, 15-17 and 18-25. The winners will be honored in special ceremonies held during the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature in 2020, and the winning entries published in a commemorative book.
Both competitions are hugely popular, last year seeing more than 1,000 entries for the Taaleem Award for Poetry and more than 3,000 for the Story Writing Competition. This year the theme for the competitions is ‘Tomorrow’. The deadline for submissions is 6 October 2019.
Isobel Abulhoul, CEO and Trustee of the Emirates Literature Foundation said: “The 2020 theme is bound to inspire our budding poets and story-tellers. We are looking forward to another year of creativity as students interpret ‘Tomorrow’, unleash their imaginations and surprise us all with their original and thought-provoking tales and verses.”
