Eco-Tourism in Sharjah
The Emirates of Sharjah is full of surprises. While Dubai always receives accolades for building mindbending structures and awe-inspiring destinations, Sharjah has a rather traditional approach to tourism and development which is always linked to its rich heritage, history, and environment.
The Sharjah Collection (a partnership between the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority and Mantis Hospitality) is redefining adventure in the heart of the Arab world. Merging luxury with eco-tourism in Sharjah, the collections of lodges embrace some of the city’s most important heritage sites and natural wonders. With authenticity being key, guests can experience a journey steeped in Emirati culture and Arabian hospitality. Surrounded by untouched beauty, the Sharjah Collection properties offer trips unlike any you would have encountered before.
Inspired to create a unique group of luxury lodges and boutique hotels, Mantis (property developers from South Africa) brings its knowledge, offering renowned levels of standards and service. The first, Kingfisher Lodge is now in its launch stage, along with two more set to be open by the year’s end. Here’s what to expect;
Sharjah is unique. Unlike any other Emirate in the UAE, it offers a world undiscovered by many. In particular, Kalba. An exclave of the city, situated on the Gulf of Oman coast on the Omani border, it is its own slice of paradise. The most southerly town in the country, Khor Kalba was once only known for its lively fish market. It’s many natural wonders reserved for those that resided there.
Now in its soft launch stage, Kingfisher Lodge welcomes residents of the UAE and visitors from abroad to discover this captivating area. Separated from the mainland by a river and overlooking the Indian Ocean, Kingfisher Lodge is paving the way for eco-tourism in the region. Nature thrives in Khor Kalba. A desert wetland, bountiful mangroves make way for tidal creeks, as pristine sandy beaches allow nature to thrive. An important breeding ground for rare species, guests can spot hundreds of turtles, the resident gazelles or sightings of rare birds including the White-Collard Kingfisher and the Sykes’s Warbler.
After hours of exploring the area what better way to relax and unwind than in one of the 25 luxurious tents that offer complete privacy. Each room has been designed with your every need in mind. Chic and comfortable they feature all modern amenities, with a calming color palette designed to allow full relaxation. Different to any other hotel in the UAE, you feel like you are on safari ready for your next big adventure. With open views of the Indian Ocean, each suite also features its own private pool with a wellness spa also situated in its own tent onsite. Bespoke dining options are available in-room or in the stunning main dining and lounge area, helping guests get ready for whatever may lie ahead.
Al Badayer Oasis Lodge
The majestic desserts of the Al Badayer Oasis will offer a mesmerizing backdrop for this one of a kind lodge. Created with adventure in mind, its 19 rooms and 10 tents offer a peaceful and fun setting for any occasion. The largest of the three properties, this will be an exciting cultural experience full of activities targeted towards families. Urban amenities including multiple restaurants and an open-air theatre will make up this authentic Bedouin oasis.
Fossil Rock is a luxuriously converted lodge that was originally built in the 60s; holding up to 10 guests this property will offer unrivaled serenity and privacy. Nestled in the dunes of Mleiha guests will be able to explore its famed archaeological site alongside stargazing and other action-packed desert activities before returning back to the lodge to relax in their own private pool (with amazing views) or bespoke spa that includes a Himalayan sea salt room and herbal room.
