Adventureland & Sahara Centre recently celebrated 15 years of Family Entertainment. Set up in 2002, Adventureland, boasting around 70,000 square feet of floor space, is home to signature attractions such as the indoor roller coaster and elevated train. During the exuberant celebrations, we got a chance to talk with Mr. Peter Poyck the General Manager of Adventureland and discussed everything new and exciting about the park…
Tell us about yourself?
I am the general manager of Adventureland. I’ve been in the Middle East for five years now, I’ve also worked for Ferrari world and a few other projects. I’ve been in the industry for 25 years. I’ve been with the Adventureland for a year now, and it is probably the most exciting job I’ve had so far…
Tell us about your experience working at the Adventureland?
This park is 15 years old and already we have a loyal customer base and a great team. I am super excited to be a part of this team. We have new attractions and events coming in all the time than any other park and I think we are the most recognizable family entertainment center in entire UAE. Adventureland is known by everybody and hopefully, we will be having more Adventureland soon.
Given your background how do you find Adventureland in comparison to the other parks you’ve worked with?
If you look at larger theme parks like Ferrari world, IMG, or Lego land, their target market is different. It is based on tourism attracting people coming out of Europe and the United States. The Adventureland, on the other hand, is more focused on local people in Sharjah, Dubai, and Fujairah etc. We also have a somewhat different age group as our customers, we go for 5 to 15 years old. So, the kind of rides they have for instance in Ferrari world are really not suitable for us. Of course, roller coasters are always popular but we can’t go too crazy in that sense. We are more into the families with younger kids.
What sets Adventureland apart from the rest of the entertainment destinations in UAE?
First of all the theme of the Adventureland park is exceptional. I don’t think any park in the Middle East has such elaborate theming that we have. We constantly renew everything, for example, we just improved the lightings, and we’ve added new games and rides.
What changes are you going to introduce in the future?
I am planning on getting more interactive rides like the trampoline, I am also going to add more virtual reality and virtual simulators because we have to keep up with the time. A lot of young kids are already used to playing play stations and x boxes so, we need to go that direction but a little more advanced, with the stuff that you can’t really buy in the stores or do at home. We are also taking out some rides that aren’t too popular. Rides like go-karts, it is nice but it takes up a lot of space so we are replacing it with more interactive attraction we are actually adding a motion simulator next month. And we are expecting another racing motion simulator to come in virtual reality, in a couple of months. So rather than trying to grow in size, we are looking to replace the older rides.
Any last word that you would like to share with our readers, especially on the occasion of the 15th year anniversary?
I would just say to come and experience the Adventureland! Become a gold rewards member which is a loyalty pass, from Adventureland-Sahara Centre that offers incentives and discounts to its customers for their loyalty and support. And we let you know on the almost weekly basis what activities we have. Our mascots are very popular Haider the Lion and Zebra Zap so just come and play with us…
The park is open from 10 am to 11 pm, Sundays to Wednesdays (weekdays) and 10 am to 12 midnight, Thursdays to Saturdays (weekends).
